The Gregg County Historical Commission is seeking applications for new Official Texas Historical Markers. Deadline is Oct. 24 for the 2015 Texas Historical Commission marker cycle.
The markers can honor historic individuals, schools, churches, communities, cemeteries, businesses and historic events. Marker sponsors can be residents or organizations and are responsible for the application’s research, narrative and marker funding.
Gem Meacham, chair of the GCHC’s research and marker committee, said marker applications submitted by Oct. 24 will be considered by the historical commission at its Nov. 11 meeting.
Applications approved by the local commission will be submitted to the Austin-based Texas Historical Commission, which gives final approval and determines language on the markers.  Please contact Meacham at 903-983-2554 or email her at gemmeacham@gmail.com. Markers already approved and awaiting dedications include Gladewater’s New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Johnny Cace’s Seafood and Steakhouse, Temple Emanu-El and the Longview Amtrak depot.
