The City of Tyler Housing Agency is still accepting online applications for its Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List till Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 for applicants who live or work in Smith County.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is the federal government’s primary program for very low-income families to lease or purchase safe, decent and affordable privately-owned housing.
“We are excited to be opening our waiting list to provide assistance to families in Smith County who are in need,” said Housing Eligibility Supervisor Candace Porter-Condry. “Our new process for accepting submissions online will allow the greatest access to the application. This process will allow every interested household the opportunity to apply.”
Preference will be given to applicants whose head of household, spouse or co-head of household are elderly (62 years or older) and/or disabled. Applications must be submitted online ONLY at
Status information regarding placement on the list will be available online shortly after the closing date. Instructions for obtaining status information will be provided during the online application process.  Applications can only be completed online unless some form of reasonable accommodation is requested.  If you need to request a reasonable accommodation to fill out the application, please contact 903-531-1303.  No applications will be provided at the Neighborhood Services Office. Applicants must apply during the period the list is open for applications. Due to limited funding availability, applications will be selected and prioritized using a computer-generated random selection system for 500 available slots. Not all applicants will be placed on the waiting list. By randomly selecting the applications received for placement on the waiting list, the process will ensure that all applicants will have an equal opportunity. The time and date of receipt of the application online does not determine whether an application will be selected for the waiting list. There is no advantage to applying immediately after the list opens.
Applicants without an active library card will need to bring an ID and bill that shows proof of address. Citizens who live outside of Tyler city limits will pay a $1 fee.
To ensure availability and access to the online system, the City of Tyler Housing Agency has partnered with the organizations listed below. During the initial opening week (December 15-19, 2014), these agencies will have workstations with internet access to allow applicants who do not have internet access the option to apply. Additionally, Housing staff/volunteers will be present at these locations to assist those who need help with the online process:
