All Money Raised Will Be Donated to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
On Monday, CBS 19, owned by TEGNA launched Texas Cares, an initiative to support those in need following Hurricane Harvey. All money raised by CBS 19 will be donated to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The TEGNA Foundation will match the first $100,000 of donations.
Since Monday, Texas Cares has raised $1.15 million in just 24 hours. “This is just the beginning. We will use this momentum to continue to serve our communities and help improve the lives of those in need,” said Dave Lougee, president and CEO of TEGNA.
“After the Tornados that hit Canton in the spring and now the devastation happening in south Texas we here at CBS 19 believe that helping our community and neighbors in the south is crucial” said Donna Wilson, President and General Manager of CBS 19. “Our station is coming together to help those in need not only by donations but also by providing important, lifesaving information and aid to those effected by Hurricane Harvey.”
“This is a historic storm and heartbreaking situation for all those in Harvey’s path,” said David Brady, CEO, American Red Cross of the Texas Gulf Coast. “The threat of Harvey is not over and the Red Cross is working around the clock to provide safe shelter and comfort for hundreds of thousands of people who have been impacted. We applaud TEGNA for coming together to support relief efforts. All money raised will be critical as we continue to provide vital services and supplies to those who need it most.”
Beginning Monday, August 28, CBS 19 and 45 TEGNA owned stations in 38 markets reached out in their communities to help raise money for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As part of the Texas Cares initiatives, all stations are running stories on-air and across social media informing viewers how they can help. CBS 19 has a dedicated donation page on their website, cbs19.tv. Donations to the Texas Cares initiative are tax deductible and proceeds will go to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
