Gallery Main Street is accepting entries into the jury process for its upcoming “Against All Odds” art exhibit now through Friday, Oct. 10.
“Against All Odds” will be the last exhibit of 2014 for the gallery, which is managed by the City of Tyler Main Street Department in cooperation with the volunteers of the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition and Heart of Tyler, Inc.
“We encourage artists to carefully read the entry guidelines, which are available at,” said Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell. “All of the details on how to enter, including image size, deadlines, and other items, are included in the prospectus.”
Abell noted that veteran artists are encouraged to enter the jury process, given that the exhibit will be available for viewing on Veterans Day when the City of Tyler holds a Veterans Day event on the square.
Once the entry deadline passes, gallery staff collect all images, strip them of identifying factors such as signatures and sends the images to a jury of professional artists and arts instructors who score the pieces from 0 to 10. The highest-scoring pieces are selected to be included in the exhibit.
Artists will be notified whether or not their submissions were accepted for exhibit by Friday, Oct. 24. Selected works must be dropped off at the gallery on Nov. 5. Take-down will be on Jan. 6, 2015.
An opening reception for “Against All Odds” is set for Saturday, Nov. 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event will include music, refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists. As always, the reception is free and open to the public.
