Providing Resources to Individuals and Families with Alzheimer’s
The newly formed board of the East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance announced today the formation of a non-profit organization with the goal of providing resources to individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer’s.
“Our East Texas Community has an overwhelming need for local resources and support for families dealing with Alzheimer’s” said Michael E. Jordan, President, “and we hope to be able to fill that need.”
The Alliance will be working to secure a building and funding for operation of a respite center and headquarters for local resources for those dealing with Alzheimer’s. Beginning in March, the Alliance will be offering new monthly support groups for families and individuals:
Genesis Clairmont on the Second Wednesday of the Month at Noon (call 903-353-9138)
Hawkins Creek on the First Tuesday of the Month at 6:00 p.m.
The Alliance is pursing a grant through the Area Agency on Aging to provide respite care for families through local facilities and more information on the availability of this service will be forthcoming.
This year, Unforgettable Tuesdays celebrates its tenth year of operations providing once a week respite care and a support group for the community. Unforgettable Tuesdays is supported through the Greggton United Methodist Church and provides respite each Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with a support group on the last Tuesday of every month from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. They also provide the Memory Café at Good Shepherd Healthy Living Institute on the second Friday of every month.
We know that our community will have an incredible response to this initiative because the need is so great. We will be looking to the community for volunteers and financial support and look forward to growing this together. Every dollar raised will stay local and provide support to families and individuals here in East Texas.
