Many who came out to the recent Cattle Baron’s ‘Fun Run Race’ had different reasons for coming. Megan Deal ran in memory of her mother Vicky Deal. Her friend Rachael Young ran in honor of her friends. Mitchell Yoder another friend of Ms. Deal also ran in memory of Vicky Deal. For these three young ladies, the race was not about winning a trophy. Ms Young said it best, “We are here in honor of our friends and we plan to make it to the finish line.”

Mike Gautreaux was running on behalf of a friend Scott Bryk.

Alex Laylle a Hallsville 7th grader is a marathon runner. He came for the 5K. “It is fun and I am good at it.” He was glad to be running for a good cause. His parents Luis and Cheryl Luis are his biggest supporters.

Holly Salaices a marathon runner said the Cattle Barron’s Ball ‘Fun Run Race’ is for a good cause. Moreover, she has a friend who is being treated for leukemia. In addition, two of her friends died from cancer at the young age of 40 and 52 respectively.

Melissa Newton was running for cancer patients who could not come to the run. “I do not take my health for granted, she said. “I am representing those would have loved to come but could not be here for health reasons.”

Nancy Roberts came to walk with her grand-daughter Megan Foster who likes running. And so many others had various reasons related to the big C.


Donna Blalock, public relations chair said, “Many people pre-registered and we are grateful for their generous donations. They made the run a great success, said Cattle Baron’s Ball public relations chair Donna Blalock. “We greatly appreciate those who came to the run and we thank all our sponsors and volunteers for their hard work. We think it will get bigger because cancer touches everyone.”
