The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department is launching an exciting program for girls in grades 5-12 to help equip them with the tools they need to grow into strong young women.
Starting Jan. 11, the S.T.A.R.S. (Sophisticated, Talented, Amazing, Respectable Sisters) Program will meet on Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Glass Recreation Center, 501 W. 32nd Street.
With a motto of “I promise to respect myself first and then others, believe in myself and know that I am a shining S.T.A.R. in the sky!” the S.T.A.R.S. Program will empower young girls to make positive decisions throughout their lives. Instructor Lashundria Minix, a certified school teacher, will lead programs on high achievement, relationships, etiquette tips, fashion and much more.
Middle School and High School students will meet every other Wednesday evening; middle school teens will meet the first week of the program and high school teens the second week. The cost to participate in the S.T.A.R.S. Program is $15 per month; family discounts are available if more than one sibling participates.
