Breast Center earns perfect score for ten consecutive years of recognition

The Breast Center at Good Shepherd, a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, proudly announces its tenth annual perfect Mammography Quality Standards Act inspection by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

“We are honored to be recognized for offering an outstanding environment of care,” said Dr. KiAnne Hardee, Fellowship Trained Breast Radiologist at the Breast Center. “Our all-female advance level certified staff is truly dedicated to delivering high quality care in a comfortable and patient focused setting.”

Perfect scores are only given to facilities that did not receive any health related violations and are clearly above average in comparison with their peers. State Health Services recognized this high level of distinction with a certificate of achievement and letter congratulating the Breast Center and mammography staff for excellence in women’s health care related to mammography studies.

The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) was signed into law on October 27, 1992, to establish national standards for mammography. The MQSA requires that all facilities become certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order to perform mammography studies.

To become FDA certified, a facility first must be accredited by an Accreditation Body approved by the FDA.  To pass accreditation and subsequently qualify for a MQSA mammography facility certificate, a facility must meet baseline requirements relative to personnel qualifications, equipment performance specifications, quality assurance and quality control testing and recordkeeping, and clinical and phantom image reviews.

The Breast Center at Good Shepherd is accredited by the American College of Radiology, which has recognized The Breast Center as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.  As a Center of Excellence, the Breast Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.  The Breast Center is the only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence in Longview, and was also one of the first centers to be recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence in East Texas.
