The Kilgore College Small Business Development Center (KCSBDC) is hosting two hands-on QuickBooks courses tailored for small business owners and their managers. The courses are titled QUICKBOOKS for Small Business Owners and Managers (LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2) as part of the fall semester’s curriculum. Both courses are CEU Certified, and students completing the courses will receive a Certificate of Completion.
QUICKBOOKS LEVEL 1 is scheduled for Monday-Thursday, October 17-20.
QUICKBOOKS LEVEL 2 is slated for Monday-Thursday, November 14-17.
Classes will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Kilgore College/Longview Computer Lab 105 located at 300 South High Street in Longview.
Students will work in individual computer terminals using QuickBooks Pro by Intuit as an example of computerized bookkeeping systems. Students will be instructed on basic principles of setting up and employing computerized record-keeping programs with emphasis on how to best use these resources for smaller businesses.
Topics to be pursued in the QUICKBOOKS LEVEL 1 workshop will include Common Business/Accounting Terms, Introduction to QuickBooks, creating a new company file, working with lists, accurately establishing your chart of accounts in QuickBooks, setting up all items you and sell, tracking customers and sales, invoicing sales receipts, retail sales, credit memos and statements, tracking vendors and expenses through bills, bill payment stubs, checks, credit memos, job costs, reconciling, 1099s, tracking sales taxes, budgets and forecasts, processing credit card payments, tracking sales orders and backorders, and other such functions. There will be a limit of 30 students, who will also study prerequisite basic accounting principles and familiarity with computers and Windows.
QUICKBOOKS LEVEL 2 workshop participants will learn about QuickBooks Advanced Reporting, understanding the subtleties of QuickBooks reports, importing and exporting reports, using special fields to improve reporting, using Microsoft Excel to modify and graph data, setting up and using payroll, time tracking, estimating, job costing, purchasing and managing inventory, building inventory assemblies, customizing forms, and writing QuickBooks letters. This class, also, is limited to 30 students, all of whom must have prior QuickBooks experience.
The instructor will be Jason Cooner, CPA, of Cooner & Cooner, P.C. Tuition is $179 per course, which includes all lesson materials and hands-on computer lab instruction.
