LeTourneau University’s School of Education has plans to launch a new Bachelor of Science in Sports Communication beginning in Fall 2012.  The new interdisciplinary degree will allow students to combine courses in kinesiology, communication and marketing to provide them with training and education to be successful in sports media and sports journalism, as well as public relations in sports-related fields.

Graduates could work with newspapers, radio stations, television stations or online sports companies and will learn history, economics, psychology and cultural significance of sports, as well as operating broadcasting equipment and producing field assignments.

“This new and exciting program will provide students with the ability to combine their love for sport with their passion for writing, speaking or working with media,” said LETU Dean of Education Dr. Wayne Jacobs.  “There is always a need for professionals in sports media – whether it is in professional broadcasting or writing for a local sports section.  This degree will be a great way for our graduates to make an impact in the world every day.”
