On the Border (OTB), a casual restaurant chain featuring Tex-Mex standards such as fajitas, burritos & grilled meats officially opened its location at 200 W Loop 281, located in front of the Longview Mall JC Penny’s parking lot. The restaurant marked the event with a Longview Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting.
Ambassador Linda Fullman gave a brief history of the chamber and expressed gratitude to everyone in attendance for their support. General Manager Adam Thompson was elated with supporters’ turnout. “We are so excited to bring our authentic Mexican cuisine to the Longview community!” said Thompson. “We hope to continue the excitement of this amazing restaurant in the Longview community for years to come.”
Thompson, a Plano native, has been general manager of OTB for two years. He moved to Longview with his wife Crystal and 17-month old daughter hoping to improve the quality of life for his family. In 2009, he bagged his bachelors of science in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. However, after graduation, he could not find a job in his field. According to Thompson, he had to quickly find employment. Therefore, he worked at Home Depot in the loss prevention department and at OTB as a server for two years. Then, he was promoted to assistant manager at OTB for another two years. According to Thompson, he did his job well and was promoted to general manager. His ultimate goal is to be an area director in the next two years.
One of OTB goals is to create more jobs for the community while providing exceptional customer service and scrumptious food for the public. According to Thompson, the new OTB in Longview, has hired approximately 150 employees including dishwashers, servers, host, cooks, and managers. “Providing opportunities for employment displays some of the many things we can do,” he said. “My staff makes it all happen. Without them, I am nothing and the business is nothing. Employment opportunities are available and applications are being accepted.”
It is important to note, Mayor of Longview, Andy Mack MD, made a personal appearance to read his proclamation. “We are very happy that you chose Longview as one of your business locations. We appreciate you for choosing Longview and hiring our people, he said. “I want you to know that the people of Longview will support your business. On behalf of Longview City Council and the people of Longview, we welcome you to our city.
Ashley Zickefoose On The Border’s chief marketing officer, is also thrilled about the new location. “On The Border is committed to lively experiences where guests can eat, drink, laugh and live in the moment,” she said. “Our Longview guests can look forward to many vibrant connections with food, drinks, the atmosphere, and each other.”
On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is the world’s largest Mexican casual dining brand, offering an extensive menu of great-tasting, classic and contemporary Mexican food. According to the President of On the Border, Ward Whitworth OTB innovates to enhance guest’s experiences. “Whether it’s our laid-back outdoor patio, vibrant sports-friendly Cantina, or our welcoming dining room area, the look for On the Border is a reflection of what our fans have been asking for,” he said. “We’re pleased to be able to give it to them in style. With our flavorful menu items, we hope to bring some spice to the Longview community for everyone to enjoy!”
