Newly-appointed Facility Services Director for Smith County,Ed Nichols

Ed Nichols was promoted to Smith County Facility Services Director on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.

Smith County Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Nichols to the position, replacing Steve Christian who recently retired.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the Smith County Commissioners Court and the residents of Smith County,” Nichols said.

ago and most recently served as facility services supervisor. Nichols grew up in Longview and graduated from Gilmer High School. He started his career as an electrician while serving four years in the U.S Marine Corps. From 1999-2003, he served in Japan and North Carolina. He has done electrical work in the residential, commercial and industrial fields.

As Facility Services Director, Nichols will oversee the department’s more than 20 employees, who care for and maintain the county’s 25 buildings and grounds, including the T.B. Butler Fountain Square and Camp Ford.

Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran said the county was appreciative to have so many qualified candidates apply for the position, including Nichols and two other candidates who were interviewed by Commissioners during executive session on Tuesday.

“Ed Nichols is ready and prepared to fill that spot,” Moran said. “We have great confidence in your ability.”
