On Tuesday, October 11, neighborhoods throughout Longview are invited to join forces with other communities statewide for the Texans Against Crime event. Texans Against Crime is sponsored by the City of Longview – Partners in Prevention and the Longview Police Department.
The 2011 year marks the 21st year the City of Longview will participate in an awareness campaign against crime.
In the past years Longview has seen much success with community block parties held. The Texans Against Crime will host a Kick-off event held this year on Tuesday, September 13 from 6-7:30 PM at the Maude Cobb Convention & Activity Center where participants can visit with other Texans Against Crime party hosts, law enforcement personnel, pick up yard signs, and visit informational booths.
This year an award will be given for the BEST Neighborhood Crime Watch group in Longview. An essay of 200 words or less is required with the application, explaining why your block deserves to be featured this year as the “BEST Neighborhood Crime Watch”. If you would like to submit a Neighborhood Crime Watch for this award you can find the rules and entry form at www.LongviewPolice.com  under “Quick Links”, or contact Partners in Prevention at 903.237.1019.
Deadline for application submission is Monday, September 26th at 5:00 p.m. in the Partners in Prevention office.

All citizens are encouraged to participate by hosting or attending one of the many Texan Against Crime parties on October 11th designed to promote neighborhood alliances that strengthen our communities and preserve the quality of life in East Texas. Brenda Buck of Partners in Prevention stated, “Through Texans Against Crime, we can strengthen our communities by helping educate our families, friends, and neighbors on crime prevention. This is a great opportunity for you to get together and have all residents meet each other—all in the name of preventing crime!”
