The Tyler Independent School District (TISD)  Foundation is not cutting back its efforts to better the lives of its students and city just because school is out for the summer. Now in its 20th year the foundation has just held its annual Night of Shining Stars and The Art of Giving events.  There have also been additional extracurricular activities.
Assisted by some unselfish, anonymous financial donors the foundation sent 39 members of the John Tyler choir to New York City, where they sang for appreciative crowds at the Statue of Liberty and at 9-11 Ground Zero.  This performance can be viewed in Power Point.  JT Choir Director Vicki Hughes described her group’s delight and appreciation for their unnamed benefactors.
“They are still walking in the clouds from excitement,” she said.  “It was an incredible experience.  They learned and experienced so much, and will carry this trip with them for a long time.  Thank you so much for your support of our students.  I can’t put into words the expressions on these kids’ faces as they walked through New York.”
The foundation will continue commemorating its 20th anniversary throughout 2011.  For further information about or to make contributions to the TISD Foundation please contact its director, Larry Goddard, at 315 North Broadway, Suite #401, Tyler, Texas, 75702, or at foundation@suddenlinkmail.com.
