“Leerme un Cuento,” a new weekly Spanish story time, will begin at the Tyler Public Library on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Story Room, beginning Nov. 3.
The program will be led by Youth Services Librarian Linda Gray and Library Volunteer Patricia Fitzgibbons. Children up to age five, and their families, are welcome to attend the program.
“I was overjoyed to have Mrs. Fitzgibbons, a retired bilingual teacher, ask about hosting a Spanish story time at our library,” said Gray. “This will be an enriching experience for families that speak either English or Spanish, plus we can have a lot of fun at the same time.”
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, reading aloud to children improves vocabulary and other important communication skills. Also, taking part in an entertaining reading time encourages children to become independent readers and increases their chances for success in school.
