The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the City of Tyler Neighborhood Services Department funding to administer 25 new Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Vouchers. HUD-VASH is a unique partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and HUD that provides long-term case management, supportive services, and permanent housing support for chronically homeless Veterans. Veteran Affairs (VA) provides case management and eligibility screening services, while HUD allocates permanent housing subsidies from its Housing Choice Voucher Program. “The primary goal of this joint program is to move Veterans and their families out of homelessness,” said Neighborhood Services Director Brenda Johnson. “This is just one more way that Tyler is increasingly being recognized as a veteran friendly community, and we are so thankful for this opportunity.” Veterans should contact Marsha Latham with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs at (903) 583-6589 or (214) 923-2779. Those veterans who qualify will then be referred to the City of Tyler Neighborhood Services Department.
